#MAYSGIVESBACK: Urban Harvest STL
April is Earth Month, and we always go full throttle into this time of year with sustainability and community in mind. That’s why we chose Urban Harvest STL as our give back recipient. For the month of April, a portion of our profits will be donated to Urban Harvest in support of their mission of healthy food for all.
Urban Harvest is a non-profit that believes all members of every community deserve equal access to fresh and healthy food regardless of socioeconomic status, race or location. They grow healthy and nutritious foods across seven urban farms in St. Louis, and distribute the produce to other local non-profits who provide for communities with little to no access to healthy and fresh food. Urban Harvest focuses on building community through food, and also focuses on educating about the process of urban farming.
In 2018, about 1 in 5 St. Louis City residents did not have access to enough healthy and nutritious food to live a healthy lifestyle that is sustainable. This is due to the systemic racism that favors white neighborhoods. One of Urban Harvest’s many missions is to tackle this “food apartheid” and make sure that communities of color and poor communities never go hungry or unhealthy.
