#MAYSGIVESBACK: The Last Prisoner Project
Our #MaysGivesBack charity this month reflects something we will advocate for all year, every year: Marijuana. There’s a lot of work to be done in reforming the way marijuana is legalized in America, in addition to the work of freeing those who are unjustly incarcerated for marijuana charges. So, when you shop with May’s in July, you are supporting The Last Prisoner Project through our monthly fundraising project #MaysGiveBack.
The Last Prisoner Project is a nonprofit that is dedicated to cannabis criminal justice reform. It was founded in 2019 out of the belief that if anyone is going to make a legitimate profit off of the legal cannabis industry, those individuals must also work to release and rebuild the lives of those who are in prison for cannabis criminalization.
As the U.S. becomes more and more lax on marijuana laws in the states, there is an increasing number of individuals who have suffered marijuana convictions who need to be freed before more people make a profit off of legal cannabis. That is the work of the Last Prisoner Project, to free people from prison for cannabis convictions in the communities they serve.
In celebration of this donation project, we are also hosting a medical marijuana card sign-up event at the new dispensary in the Grove, our neighbor SWADE dispensary. SWADE actively works with The Last Prisoner Project to ensure that their profit off of legal marijuana is ethical, and that those who were convicted for nonviolent marijuana crimes can get a chance to be freed.
The medical marijuana card signup event will be on Friday July 16 from 3pm-7pm featuring food and drink from local Grove establishments, discounts, a raffles with goodies from local businesses, a doctor from 420id on sight (for a $50 fee) to approve your medical card, and more! The raffle will raise money for The Last Prisoner Project. See you there!
