Maximize Your Wardrobe With Our Guide To Layering
We are all about dressing with intention. Loving how you feel in what you wear can set you up to tackle your day with confidence. When experimenting with your style, give yourself permission to play around with colors (winter whites, perhaps), textures, and styles because why not, ya know? Getting dressed should be fun! One of our favorite ways to make the most of our wardrobes AND strut in style is by layering. We love building looks with vintage sweaters, flannels, denim and standout outerwear to top it all off.
Here are four looks we've put together to show you how to layer in style.
How to Dress in Layers (in style)
Dresses in the winter? Yes, Please.
We love dresses, but we totally get if they aren't your go to for the cold winter months. The good news is you can layer a beautiful dress with tights, boots and a sweater on top! In the warmer months, wear the dress sans layers for a whole new look.
Pro Tip: Play with proportions by fastening the belt around your upper waist over the sweater and untuck the sweater to the desired length. Voila! You have a “cropped” sweater.
Outdoorsy, But Make it Chic
There’s nothing better than an outfit that can take you from hiking to a socially-distanced brunch in no time. Layer up for comfort, while mixing textures for cool. If you get too warm you could remove any or all the layers and still have a great looking outfit.
Pro tip: When layering longer or baggy pieces, create a flattering proportion by tucking the base layer in to accentuate your waist.
“OMG, Where Did You Get that Coat?”
We love a coat that turns heads. Outerwear is a great opportunity to make a statement. You could even layer a great coat over sweats and instantly look more stylish! (We’re looking at you, Hailey Bieber.)
Pro tip: For maximum WOW factor, find a coat in a bold color, unique texture or standout pattern, like this 60’s yellow and brown houndstooth coat that we all love!
Trench Looks Are Everything
Trenches are so timeless! Trench coats give us an urban street style vibe that make them a closet staple for every wardrobe as far as we’re concerned. This look really plays with proportions with a the long shirt tails and cropped sweater and pants. The long lines of the trench pull it all together for a very polished look.
Pro tip: Balance a structured look with a more flowy trench, or vice versa!
The Gist
Bottom line, it’s cold outside so if you’re going to layer up, do it in style, baby. Love our style and want to score the looks? Shop our website or stop by the storefront Tuesday-Sunday 11am-4pm. Also be sure to follow our Instagram stories where we drop new, fresh vintage 6 days a week.
