Q & A with STL Style Star Amber Murphy
Local Style Maven & ICONS: A Tribute To Stylish Women Host Amber Murphy Offers the Inside Scoop On Her Personal Style
Why is personal style important to you?
It’s a stamp of my personal, individual identity. It’s my self expression, my introduction. It’s me presenting myself to whoever takes notice.
How would you describe your style?
I would say take the late 60s, 70s and 90s - blend them together and that’s my style... My little personal mixed bag of classic yet modern with a little edge and somehow it makes sense. ; )
Who or what are the biggest influences on your style?
My morning mood is a big factor, followed by music I’m listening to and who or what I feel like channeling for the day.
Tell me about some of your favorite vintage pieces.
There are so many pieces I love... My beautiful woven platforms from the 70’s I got while visiting Joshua Tree a few years back as a gift from Kime the owner of The End, now a friend of mine... my feet worship of them!
And my latest obsession is a vintage leopard faux coat recently got at Mays Place. My cold nights will never be the same now that I have her in my life!
If you could have one person’s wardrobe past or present we wouldn’t be?
Sharon Tate, hands down, my fox!! I’ve always had an obsession with her. You can see “Sharon” influence in my every day style... might to the way I’ll wear my hair, to the accessories I put on and sometimes it’s a complete outfits inspired by her. I would die to have her wardrobe! If someone could make that happen... I will marry you!!
What advice would you give to someone trying to find their personal style?
Create a list of people who inspire you. A secret board on Pinterest is a great way to start. Pin your favorite outfits, celebs, icons. This will give you an idea of what style you lean more towards. Another great piece of advice is to clean out your closet!! Get rid of things you haven’t worn in years... there’s no reason to keep that crap around.
